He's Outta There

The best news of all!!!
Jason was discharged today (Saturday 31st) from the hospital, after only 11 days. Another miracle, as they were told he would be there for three weeks. They took out his pic line and the trake this morning and he can breathe a little from his nose, his mouth and the hole in his throat. The only way he can talk is to cover the hole with his finger. It will close on it's own in three to four days. Our bodies are so amazing, and most of us take them for granted. Jason and Rachel want to let everyone know they have been overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers in their behalf. While this has been two of the hardest weeks in their lives, they have been buoyed up by everyone's generosity and support. Thank you from the bottom of their hearts. Our next problem will be to keep Jason from doing too much. He will still have his jaw wired for six more weeks, so he will have to be real creative with his shake recipes. Hopefully we can keep some weight on him. There will be time and the doctor is really optimistic things will continue to heal.

Quick Update

I talked to Jan tonight for a second and she gave me the update on Jason. He is doing great in his new room. He actually stayed by himself at the hospital last night. Someone has stayed with him everynight since the accident, so that was a big step. He still has his trake in but he us unhooked from everything else. No IV bags, no catheter, he's a free man. Hopefully he can go home this weekend. It depends on how he is doing with the trake I guess, but I'm not sure. His jaw is still wired shut but he is talking just like normal, just through clenched teeth. He is feeding himself. Mom said that he can such really good through a straw now so he can drink down 6 oz. of Herbalife shakes in a couple of min. The shakes are also helping regulate his sugars; they are down to a 98. Yeah! The surgeon that did his face came in and took out all of his stitches and was amazed how well he is healing. The Jaw doctor came in too and took x-rays and said that by feeling his jaw he thinks his bite is going to be good and not out of alignment. Yeah again! So all is going splendid with Jason. Thanks for all you love and support.

Counting the Miracles

This is an email from Jan (Jason's Mom):


After Jason's accident we watched as Rachel struggled to understand why God would allow this tragedy to happen to such a good guy. The only thing I could think to say was "so we can watch God perform His miracles". I want to witness to you of His hand in all things.
1. As terrible as Jason's injuries were, it is a miracle there was no brain damage, neck or spinal injuries, blindness or other broken bones.
2. Jeremy just happened to be working in Provo and was able to assist his dad in giving Jason a blessing shortly after he was brought to the hospital.
3. As he has been writing notes of everything on his mind, he urged Rachel to get the paperwork to the Bishop so that they could be sealed in the temple.
4. He had a special experience with his cousin Aaron who died suddenly a couple months ago.
5. After being in the ICU for three days he was taken off of the ventillator and has breathed on his own.
6. The nurses have had Jason up and walking down the hall. They gave him a superman cape for special effects.
7. The doctors have said he is recovering 99% faster than anyone they have had in the ICU.
This is just the beginning of the list. I will continue to keep you posted as the days go by.

Rachel created this game to create the possibility of raising and abundance of money to pay for all of the medical bills of Jason and Travis (the other injured worker) because Jason and Rachel-like so many of us-have no insurance. Jason is at a hospital that is Non-profit and has the ability to write off a lot of the cost but the cost will still be high. Jason will also have to have 2 or 3 surgeries down the road to help reconstruct his nose and his mouth and teeth, and Rachel would like the money to be there so Jason has no excuse to say no and not get them done. He Talks, He Talks!

Wow what a miracle it is to see the power of prayers and blessings can make in someone's life. Jason is making remarkable leaps and bounds in his healing progress. The doctors are amazed at his rate of progress; he is healing 99% faster than anyone else they have seen. Mini miracles are happening everyday.


He is walking....no, running laps around the hospital floor when they have him up to exercise. He's been nicknamed "Superman" and even has a "cape". He has moved out of the ICU and had two room changes since the last post. He is in just a regular recovery room now. I called down the other day to talk to Jan (Jason's Mom) and she and Jason were sitting out on the balcony watching the mountains and the cars go by. The most recent miracle is that he is talking again. They have downsized his trake tube which allows him to be able to talk again. They originally told him that he might be able to make some noise with his throat but not really be able to talk for a while......he sounds perfect. Jason texted Jon the other day and said "can talk again". Jon was confused so we called down there to talk to Rachel and got the perfect sound of Jason's voice instead. I didn't believe it at first, but it was him. Now his jaw is still wired shut and will be for a while we hear, but at Jason's rate of progress, maybe not as long as the doctors think. Jason is talking kind of like a ventriloquist, through clenched teeth. When I asked him how he is talking with his jaw still wired he replied, "my tongue still works!" Kind of....."like duh". He was only in the ICU for 3 1/2 days and he has been breathing on his own since Fri. morning. Simple miraculous! Keep your prayers coming. Thank you for the ones already offered.

Jason's Update

So here is the update on our amazing brother Jason. Jon spent the night with him last night and said that he slept pretty good, he wasn't coughing as much. They gave him just a little bit of sedation to help him relax so he wouldn't cough as much and that seemed to help. It was a good night for him though because when the doc came in this morning he told him that as soon as a room was available he could move out of the ICU. Yeah!!! He is breathing on his own and even got up and walked twice yesterday. He is able to see pretty well also, he can read things and write and see who is with him. It is a miracle that he even has his eyes back, the doctors are entirely amazed at the progress he is making. Rachel said that the doctor came in after surgery and told her that he has never seen a case as bad as his, he actually used the word "hamburger" in reference to Jason's face. He also said that he has never seen a case like his NOT have ANY brain damage. A Miracle! He looks really good, he is optimistic, his sense of humor is there too (he said in one of his notes that he is going to be back to work in a week); the angels are definitely present. The spirit is strong. Jason and Rachel are feeling the blessings of everyone's prayers and fasting, please keep them coming. Jason is such a strong spirit that Satan has been extra hard to get him down since day 1, but the Lord has a much greater plan for him and is blessing Jason with LIFE. Jason and Rachel want everyone to know how grateful they are for everyone's support and love, they are truly blessed.

Prayers for Jason!!

On Tuesday the 20th, Jon's brother Jason (the one he was building homes with in Utah) had a horrific accident. Jason and a guy working with him were up on some scaffolding working on some soffits up at the roof line of Jason's house and a huge gust of wind or a micro burst came up and blew them clean off the scaffolding, and blew the scaffolding down. They fell 18' to the ground with the scaffolding coming down all around them. The other guy fell in a window well and broke both of his legs and part of his back, he has surgery yesterday morning for his back and is in a lot of pain; that is all that we know on him. Jason, on the other hand, we know lots more. Jason also fell 18' but landed flat on his face crushing every bone and structure in his face. (I would put up the pics but they are pretty gross) We think he must have been knocked out on the way down or something, to explain why he didn't have his hands and arms out in front of him to block the fall; but then he says he thinks he remembers crawling over to his pickup and calling someone, so we're not too sure. They life flighted him to Regional Medical in Provo and then proceeded with a 7.5 hour surgery to reconstruct everything. The doctors say that there was only bone dust and fragments left. He came out of the surgery with: a tracheotomy, wired shut jaw, 10 titanium plates in his face, 50-60 pediatric screw (the adult ones were too big), and lots of swelling. The doctors did an amazing job, he still looks like Jason-just a little puffier. He is on steroids to keep the swelling down, but has so far not complained much about pain, maybe it just hasn't hit him yet. He was also given a CAT scan yesterday morning that came back with great reports, no damage, no amnesia!! Thank the Lord!! And amazingly enough there is no neck damage, nor any other damage to the rest of his body-internal or external. Thank the Lord again!! He is very coherent and his brain is going non-stop, they actually had to give him stuff to help him relax and rest so that he could heal because he was too busy up there. His eyes are still pretty swollen but the outlook is good, he can see his visitors when someone is in there and he can track light, so the docs don't seem worried. Today they are pulling the IV's to put a tube directly to his heart for pure nutrition to build back up is blood. They told us that his blood count was really low from such a loss, but can't do a transfusion because of the trake. With the nutrition straight to his heart though, he should be able to build up his blood supply just fine, is what they are telling us. His overall prognosis is very good. So we as a family are simply asking that you might keep him in your prayers and his family that he will have a speedy recovery and that they will be able to cope with the trails and obstacles ahead.
